Hotel Restaurant KRAINER

The forest is reflected not only in the award-winning four-toque cuisine of the Hotel-Restaurant Krainer but also in the design of the hotel and restaurant interiors and exteriors. A wealth of refined wood, both inside and outside, creates an ambiance like no other.

Not far from Sankt Marein begins the Waldheimat, which Peter Rosegger immortalized in his literary works. There, Andreas Krainer and his family follow in his footsteps in their own way: Just as Rosegger modernized Styrian homeland literature over a hundred years ago, the Krainers are developing a new Styrian cuisine in their award-winning establishment, which has earned four toques.

Accompanied by Viereck Architekten, with whom they visited us multiple times to taste, compare, and configure, they adapted the ambiance of the house to meet its gastronomic aspirations. Complete with a new terrace, facade, refreshed rooms, and the feiaKUCHL in the garden.

Since grilling is celebrated here, charred Vulcano wood was the logical choice for indoors; outside, the cooking studio is clad in Wörthersee panels with a fine band-saw cut, which we thermally treated at 212°C and then coated. In the Waldheimat rooms, our Gran Paradiso in a hacked finish greets you, while the terrace is made of Gardasee decking. For certain sections, Andreas Krainer found an unusual use: he uses them between the grill and the food as grilling boards, which especially enhance the flavor of fish.

The surface texture and organic feel of Vulcano impressed us so much that we could no longer imagine anything else for the feiaKUCHL project.
