Gstaad
When carpentry was still a craft in the true sense of the word and woodworking with machines was unthinkable, carpenters shaped logs into beams using only their broad axes. With their hewn surfaces, full of the marks of countless axe blows, they still command our respect today for the old craftsmen's sense of proportion and perseverance - and are more beautiful than ever as load-bearing elements, wall panelling, ceilings and on pieces of furniture, whether in a rustic ambience or a modern context.
